Benjamin Franklin Bridge
Second part of the Shazam! saga, Shazam! Fury of the Gods takes place, like the first part, in Philadelphia. The first battle of the film takes place on the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, one of the city’s landmarks. However, like most DC or Marvel superhero films, the bulk of the feature was shot on location in Atlanta, not in the City of Brotherly Love.
A hero on the bridge
The opening scene of Shazam! Fury of the Gods required significant logistics. Several shots were, in fact, captured on the bridge itself, in Philadelphia, by director David F. Sandberg. However, it is in Atlanta that the scenes involving special effects were produced. Atlanta Metro Studios at 6010 Studio Way in Union City was the team’s operational base throughout the shoot.
A feast of winks
Shazam! Fury of the Gods contains its share of winks. The pediatrician’s scene allows, for example, to see the Annabelle doll. The director David F. Sandberg directed the second part of the saga dedicated to the evil doll from the Conjuring universe. The filmmaker talked about it to Collider: “There are winks everywhere. The scene with Annabelle contains quite a few. There are two different plushies from the DC universe. I also wanted to place references to old Italian horror film directors like Mario Bava and Lucio Fulci and even some very personal references to the schools I went to as a child. Schools that only people from Jönköping, where I grew up, will recognize.“
Shazam! Fury of the Gods cost $125 million.
