This young man who rummages about under the photo machine is called Nino Quincampoix. Amélie was denied the company of other children, but little Nino, would rather have done without. Often, at the same moment, 9km away from each other, one was dreaming about a sister and the other about a brother, with whom they’d play all the time.

The narrator (André Dussolier)

On her way back from a visit to Mr. Collignon’s parents (Michel Robin and Andrée Damant), Amélie Poulain (Audrey Tautou) takes the subway. On the stairs of the Abbesses station, she hears the sweet melody of Si tu n’étais pas là performed by Fréhel.

The music comes out of a record neck of an old blind man sitting waiting for the subway.

Amélie’s eyes are then drawn to a young man kneeling in front of a photo booth trying to retrieve something from under the machine. Could it be love at first sight?

Amélie is the first digitally calibrated film.

In 2007, two Ecuadorian researchers discovered a new species of frog in their country. They wanted to pay tribute to Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s feature film by naming it Cochranella amelie. Today, the amphibian’s name is Teratohyla amelie.
