44 Montgomery

Saga The Matrix
Movie Matrix Resurrections Lana Wachowski (2021)
One of the most spectacular scenes in Matrix Resurrections takes place on the roof of a building in San Francisco. A sequence reminiscent of the one in the first episode, in which Neo (Keanu Reeves) dodged the bullets of Agent Smith's henchmen by using his extraordinary gifts. The building in question being 44 Montgomery Street.

I saw this in a dream. My dream ended here.

Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss)

Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) are alone on the roof of 44 Montgomery Street in San Francisco when a helicopter starts shooting at them. Mirroring one of the key moments of the first episode of the saga initiated by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, this sequence also sees Neo routing his attackers thanks to his ability to generate force fields with his hands.

It is in the greatest secrecy that Lana Wachowski, this time alone at the helm, takes San Francisco by storm with her actors. In the city, however, despite the code name given to the film, Project Ice Cream, everyone knows that it is the shooting of the new Matrix that the director has just started. The paparazzi are tracking the every move of Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne-Moss and all the other actors involved in this blockbuster event. The scenes on the roof of 44 Montgomery Street are particularly eye-catching because of the stunt that Keanu Reeves has to perform.

The script calls for Neo to jump into the void. Like Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves is known for doing his own stunts. He knows that Lana Wachowki is a demanding director. The actor, also eager to get it right, throws himself off the roof of the building nineteen times.

Another sequence also causes some unrest in the city, namely the helicopter sequence. On the ground, the Venom: Let There be Carnage team, attempts to orchestrate a chase. However, the Matrix 4 helicopter waltz was not on the agenda. Instead of stopping everything, director Christophe Kusiak decides to use the helicopters and include them in the scene, implying that they are police reinforcements. Venom 2 therefore contains footage from the Matrix Resurrections shoot.

Matrix Resurrections is Lana Wachowski’s first solo film. His sister Lilly did not want to take part in the project because of her involvement in the series Work in Progress.

44 Montgomery

Built in 1964, completed in 1967, 44 Montgomery is a skyscraper of 564 feet high for a total of 43 floors.

Located in the middle of the financial district of San Francisco, this building designed by the famous architect John Graham was, at the time of its emergence, the highest of its kind west of Dallas. Later surpassed by 555 California Street, it was designed to house the computer subsidiary of Wells Fargo. Unusual for the time, the building includes access to the underground subway. People working there enjoy a breathtaking view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay. It also offers a luxurious terrace where it is good to eat and enjoy the city’s micro-climate.
