356 S Mission Road
In 2001, Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child were on top of the world. Survivor, their third album, was a smash hit, selling 10 million copies. However, Beyoncé Knowles has a desire for independence and is multiplying her solo initiatives. She appeared in the MTV film Carmen: A Hip Hopera and then in the Austin Powers comedy Goldmember, alongside Mike Myers. She quickly followed up with an appearance on boyfriend Jay-Z’s 03 Bonnie & Clyde and eventually followed in the footsteps of her two Destiny’s Child pals by recording a solo album of her own. While Kelly Rowland’s Dilemna and Michelle Williams’ Heart to Yours have been successful, Beyoncé’s album exceeds all expectations.
The singer was very committed to writing the majority of the tracks on Dangerously in Love and was involved in all aspects of the production. She also wanted to co-produce the album and intends to impose her wishes on the video clips. In the end, this collection of new tracks embodies the artist’s values and his fierce desire to blend multiple styles into a harmonious whole. Equally versed in hip-hop and soul, with a touch of rock and world music, the young woman made a dazzling entry into the charts with the single Crazy in Love and its thunderous video in which she appeared alongside Jay-Z.
The video is entrusted to Jake Nava, whose path has previously crossed that of Tina Turner, one of the idols of Beyoncé, the Spice Girls or The Cranberries. This one sublimates the artist’s choreographies and plays on the discrepancy between the different shooting locations. At the beginning of the video, the singer enters the scene walking on Mission Road, immediately attracting attention. The production deliberately chose to set the action in an ordinary place in order to highlight the artist and the many outfits she wears on screen. Mission Road is certainly not used to seeing stars of this caliber. During this superb, soulful and sexy opener, the artist shows a genuine talent for embodying his fusion of vintage and more contemporary sounds. And it’s still on the Mission Road side, under the bridge, that Jay-Z’s sequence takes place, when the car explodes and the couple seems to be saying that from now on, Beyoncé will definitely be a force to be reckoned with… Shortly after the release of Crazy in Love, Destiny’s Child, despite the success, decided to end their collaboration. All of which gives Beyoncé the freedom to embrace her destiny with flamboyance…
Beyoncé holds the record of awards won by a female artist. It is also the most named.
356 S Mission Rd
It only took Beyoncé strolling down Mission Rd in her first hit as a solo artist for this stretch of street to become famous.
In Los Angeles, Mission Rd runs through several notable neighborhoods including Boyle Heights. It is one of the most historically rich sites in the city. With a strong Mexican influence, Dia de Muertos is celebrated here every year and tourists enjoy walking through the area, taking in places like Mariachi Plaza, the Boyle Hotel and the beautiful chapel at Evergreen Cemetery. Lucha libre is very popular here. Mission Road also passes through Lincoln Park, one of the oldest landscaped areas in Los Angeles. It serves as a sort of border between Los Angeles and Pasadena.
