Restaurant Les Routiers
After Love Without Pity, Éric Rochant directed his new film, In the Eyes of the World , in 1991. This feature film tells the story of Bruno (Yvan Attal), a young man of 22, who wants to prove to the world that he exists. To achieve this, he decides to hijack a school bus to join his girlfriend Juliette (Charlotte Gainsbourg) several hundred kilometres from home. A scene was shot in the restaurant Les Routiers located at the entrance of the town of Vivonne.
In this scene, Bruno wants to be nice by offering drinks to the children on the bus. Unfortunately for him, the bartender never stops laughing. Annoyed, the kidnapper decides to leave the restaurant, damaging a red Renault 21 in the parking lot.
In the Eyes of the World is inspired by a true story. In 1982, Philippe, a young man of 16, decided to hijack a school bus from his technical high school in Soissons to join a girl living in Veldhoven in the Netherlands. The film is not the first adaptation of this story. It was already illustrated in 1984 in a TV film entitled Le Vent du Nord (The North Wind) directed by Alain Dhénaut, broadcast on Antenne 2.
Yvan Attal and Charlotte Gainsbourg met on the set of the film in 1991. They are still a couple today.
