“- The Drax residence. Every stone brought from France. Cute, isn’t it?

– Magnificent. Why didn’t he buy the Eiffel Tower too?

– He did. He was refused an export permit.”

Corinne Dufour (Corinne Cléry) and James Bond (Roger Moore)

The Moonraker shuttle built by the companies of Hugo Drax (Michael Lonsdale) has mysteriously disappeared. 007 has to investigate this incredible story.

And to untangle the whole thing, he goes to the billionaire’s residence.

If at first glance the businessman seems willing to cooperate, it turns out he actually wants Bond dead. He orders his servant Chang (Toshiro Suga) to take over the lowly task.

After several attempts, including one during a hunting trip, James Bond is still alive and goes to Venice to continue his investigation. The unfortunate Corinne Dufour (Corinne Cléry), who helped the British agent betray her boss, will unfortunately not have the same chance.

Supposed to be in California, in the end no stone of this residence was imported from France, since the shooting of the outside scenes took place at the castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte. For the interior sequences, the castle of Guermantes, 45 km away, was used.

Château de Vaux le Vicomte

Built from 1656, the château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a marvel of architecture and a building full of surprises…

In 1641, Nicolas Fouquet, a young parliamentarian, acquired the estate. Twenty years later, the magnificent Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a unique masterpiece that arouses covetousness.

No sooner had its construction been completed than Nicolas Fouquet was arrested, sentenced to banishment and prison. The statesman was the victim of a plot orchestrated by Colbert and Louis XIV.

The latter puts the residence under seals, recovers all the goods such as the tapestry, the furniture or the orange trees of the garden.

Recovered by Mrs Fouquet 10 years later, she will resolve to sell the residence in 1705.

Regularly resold, then left abandoned, the place is acquired in 1875 by Alfred Sommier, an art lover. 140 years later, his direct descendants, the de Vogüé family, continue the work of their ancestor by preserving this castle in its former beauty.
