In 1935, Giovanna Gassion (Marion Cotillard) sang in the streets of the 17th arrondissement of Paris. Accompanied by Mômone (Sylvie Testud), they walked the streets humming songs of the time.
Interested in the voice of the twenty-year-old, Louis Leplée (Gérard Depardieu) asked her to come and perform in his cabaret, Le Gerny’s. He then becomes his mentor. He even gave it its stage name: La Môme Piaf. She thus goes from Giovanna Gassion to Edith Piaf, a music icon forever.
The singer was only supposed to sing for a week in the cabaret but her success was such that she stayed on the stage for seven months.
This early career came to a halt after the assassination of Louis Leplée, who was found unconscious in his bed in April 1936.
The number of years lived by Édith Piaf, who died in 1963.
The rue du Ranelagh is the backdrop to Gerny’s, which was closed following the death of its owner. It was located at 54 rue Pierre-Charron in the 8th arrondissement in Paris. Today, the walls house the Hotel Frontenac.

Rue du Ranelagh is located in the 16th district of Paris.
Ranelagh Street is 1,135 m long and was named after the nearby Ranelagh Garden. Be careful however not to confuse it with the avenue du Ranelagh which is really located in the garden of the same name.
It was laid out in 1825 by Mr. Cabal, its last owner in the domain of Boulainvilliers.
In the Ranelagh street, several famous buildings stand there such as the embassies of Surinam at number 94 and Slovakia at number 125. Not forgetting the Maison de la Radio between Avenue du Président-Kennedy and Rue Raynouard.
