City Hall
Agent 007 poses as a reporter for the London Financial Times, James Stock. He asks several questions of W.G. Howe (Daniel Benzali) of the Oil and Mining Division.
On his way out of the office, he crosses paths with Stacey Sutton (Tanya Roberts), whom he had already met at Max Zorin’s (Christopher Walken) horse sale at the Château de Chantilly.
The latter is actually working with Howe. Later, she was fired from her job for interfering with her manager’s decisions.
That evening, Stacey Sutton and James Bond go to the institution to steal documents relating to the Max Zorin pipeline.
The industrialist surprises them, accompanied by May Day (Grace Jones). He kills Howe to frame Bond and Sutton as the murderers.
With the help of his accomplices, Zorin starts a fire by locking Agent 007 and the young woman in the elevator. They manage to escape in front of the whole of San Francisco, which has come to see the firemen extinguish it.
About to be arrested by the police, James Bond escapes with Stacey thanks to one of the fire trucks parked just ahead.
In most of the scenes involving the fire engine, Roger Moore himself is the pilot. He had taken his HGV licence during his military service.
San Francisco City Hall
Built in 1915, San Francisco City Hall is a city hall like no other. Unusual wedding, horrible murder, feature film set, the list goes on and on.
Built on the ruins of the first town hall destroyed by an earthquake in 1906, the current town hall has something to impress.
Covering an area of 46,000 m2 and spread over two blocks, the building is known for its dome imitating that of the Val-de-Grâce in Paris, while the interior structure of the dome follows the codes of the Hôtel des Invalides in the French capital.
Its dome, the fifth largest in the world, even overlooks that of the U.S. Capitol.
7,035 tons of steel were needed to manufacture the building and the marble used for the various decorations was imported from Alabama, Colorado, Vermont and Italy.
The remains of U.S. President William G. Harding were deposited at San Francisco City Hall after his death in 1923, Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe were married there in 1954 and Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk were murdered within these walls in 1978.
