Dirty Dancing, the decried project that became a legend
A mythical song for an equally memorable movie. The story of Baby (Jennifer Grey), a wealthy young city girl spending summer holidays with her family and becoming a professional of Dirty Dancing, a sensual and forbidden dance, is known all over the world. No one can deny the importance of this feature film in popular culture. How I Met Your Mother, The Heartbreaker, New Girl or Malcolm, all have appropriated the duo’s fiery dance steps or a storyline related to the film.
Yet this monument of world cinema almost never saw the light of day. Writer Eleanor Bergstein and producer Linda Gottlieb have been turned down by many production companies. Vestron Pictures, however, decided to give this project a chance. The success was such that we know it today.

The Mountain Lake Lodge was then the boarding house of the Kellerman family, where Baby and his family were staying. Within these walls are shot the scenes of arrival at the complex, in the family cabin, in the restaurant, unchanged since 1986, or the famous sequence of the lake, during which Johnny carries Baby.
The former boy scout camp in Lake Lure, North Carolina, is used for the employees’ cabins, the famous abortion sequence and the many dance scenes… In these places still remain the ruins of the old buildings having been used for the shooting. Every year since 2010 the Dirty Dancing Festival takes place. The opportunity to be on the film set and to pay tribute to him by dancing.
