Address W 86 St/Transverse New York, NY 10128, USA

While Central Park was shaped before the development of the automobile, several roads, including the Transverse, were later moved into the park.

86th Street was born in 1811 in the middle of the East Side, in a predominantly German community. It was nicknamed the German Broadway. The section called Transverse passes through Central Park, south of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. It connects 5th Avenue and Central Park West and offers a rural shortcut to motorists. The NYPD Central Park Precinct, Central Park’s only police station, is located along this artery, which was designed not to detract from the park.
