Built on the ruins of a Franciscan convent, the splendid residence was commissioned by the wealthy cardinal of Milan Ange-Marie Durini.
Sold in 1796 following the death of the clergyman, it has had many owners, including an American general at the end of the First World War and the explorer Count Guido Monzino in the 1970s.
The latter imported his numerous art collections gathered during his expeditions. When he died in 1988, the residence was bequeathed to the FAI, the Italian Fund for the Protection of the Environment. Since then, many visits are organized there, financing the foundation.
