Address Turner Valley Gas Plant Sunset Blvd SE, Turner Valley, AB T0L 2A0, Canada

A former industrial site transformed into an open-air museum, the Turner Valley Gas Plant tells part of Alberta’s history.

The first commercial oil field in Western Canada, the plant now includes several historic buildings and an exhibit hall. The Turner Valley Gas Plant began as a small operation and was later purchased by a large multinational company.

Operating for over seventy years, it played a key role in the energy strategy of Alberta and Canada as a whole. Although the site has since become overgrown and rusty, it has never ceased to embody a part of the country’s history for the people of the region.
