Address The Battery Battery Park City, New York, NY 10004, USA

Located on the southern tip of the island of Manhattan, Battery Park is a beautiful 24.72 acre green space in New York City.

The Financial District is home to Battery Park, a 24.72 acre park. From this beautiful green setting, tourists and locals can see the Statue of Liberty. It is also from this place that ferries leave for Liberty Island.

Battery Park is especially known for its history. A Native American people, the Kapsee, lived in the vicinity. During their conquest of this territory in the 17th century, the Dutch named this area “Capske Hoak”, after the first occupants.

Fort Amsterdam was then built on these lands considered strategic for the security of the Dutch camps.

The place was later occupied by the English in 1664 and many artillery pieces were installed there, giving its name to the green space.

Taken over by the Americans in 1783, the fort was razed to make way for a public promenade.
