Address Saintes 17100 France

Saintes is a town in the Charente-Maritime in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

The second largest city in the department after La Rochelle, Saintes was named Mediolanum Santonum in ancient times.

Capital of the Roman province of Aquitaine, it developed thanks to the river Charente which runs through it. Remains of this period can still be seen: the Germanicus arch, the thermal baths, the aqueduct and the amphitheatre.

It was declared a town of art and history in 1996.
