Address Rue Mohamed Belouizdad El Madania, Algeria

Today rue Mohamed-Belouizdad, the former rue de Lyon is located in the popular and working-class district of the wilaya of Algiers, the former Belcourt district during the French colonisation.

Located three kilometres south-west of the capital’s city centre, the district has a coastline of just over one kilometre. Not far from this artery giving its name to the district, one finds the cave of Cervantes, a place where the Spanish writer hid from the king of Algiers, but also the national library of Algeria, the Garden of test, the museum of fine arts of Algiers and five mosques. It owes its current name to an Algerian politician, revolutionary and nationalist. Two cable cars link the district to the heights of Algiers.
