Address Phare des Baleines 155 All. du Phare, 17590 Saint-Clément-des-Baleines, France

Offering one of the most beautiful panoramas of the island of Ré, the Phare des Baleines, sometimes called Cap des Baleines, is also popular for its lighthouse.

A glorious edifice culminating at 57 m, the phare des Baleines was built in 1849 to consolidate the defenses of the island of Ré, not far from the old tower erected under Vauban. Inaugurated in 1854, it is one of the highest monuments of its kind in France. At the foot of the old tower is a museum in which the region is told through videos, paintings and other objects. With its bright red top and its smooth stones, the Baleines lighthouse is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular buildings in the region.
