Cragside is famous for being the first house in the world to benefit from hydroelectric lighting. It was then surrounded by dams and lakes supposed to supply various sophisticated machines such as a sawmill, dishwashers, dumbwaiters and even a hydraulic lift. Cragside is now part of the National Trust and remains one of Northumberland’s most notable landmarks.
