Address Musée Maritime de La Rochelle Pl. Bernard Moitessier, 17000 La Rochelle, France

The maritime museum of La Rochelle is a place of history offering three spaces to dive into the heart of the marine universe.

Installed since 1995 in the Halle à Marées, the maritime museum houses various maritime exhibitions retracing the history of La Rochelle. Along the quay are 8 ships of the heritage fleet, some of which can be visited.

The idea of a museum was born from Patrick Schnepp in 1986 who founded two associations dedicated to the preservation of La Rochelle’s maritime heritage. Over the years the association “Friends of the Maritime Museum” will have the opportunity to create various exhibitions that will be successful and will push the creation of a site dedicated to maritime history.
