Legend has it that Romeo Manaigo had plans to build a hotel at the dawn of the 20th century. His wife Filomena, while visiting the current site, fell under the spell and exclaimed, “We’ll call it Miramonti.”
Originally, the hotel had 24 rooms and 38 beds. Numerous improvements and additions have been made over the course of the century, increasing the accommodation capacity, adding a golf course, tennis courts and a splendid garden.
The very first guest was the Emperor Francesco Giuseppe, the current site of Cortina being at the time attached to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, then many nobles and bourgeois until today when many celebrities such as Ingrid Bergman, Clark Gable, Peter Seller, Brigitte Bardot or Michèle Morgan stayed there.
