Discovered for the first time by James Cook on November 11, 1770, the site is also known to have been the scene of the search for gold deposits. One of the most famous prospectors, Donald Sutherland, having even given his name to the waterfalls. Milford Sound welcomes around 550,000 tourists a year. It is one of the most popular locations in all of New Zealand and a well-known filming site. Alien: Convenant or Willow have notably exploited its formidable landscapes.
