Named in 2001 in honor of New Orleans jazzman Louis Armstrong, this airport handles more than 7.7 million passengers every year.

Built in 1946, this airport is one of the largest in the southern United States. It was named until 2001 after John Moisant, an aviator who founded an air show company. The man killed himself during a demonstration on December 31, 1910 at the very place where the airport was built. The place is also known for having been the scene, on July 9, 1982, of the accident of Pan Am flight 759. A tragedy that claimed 153 victims.
