82 aquariums offer visitors the opportunity to discover some of the most fascinating underwater species in the world. It has its origins in the fish collection of René Coutant, an aquarium manufacturer who organized his first exhibition in 1972. The La Rochelle aquarium was first located at the Minimes marina. It moved near the Old Port in 2001 and benefited from a substantial expansion. Third largest infrastructure of its kind in France, it attracts more than 80,000 visitors every year.
