Inhabited by less than 80 people year round, this island is composed of steep cliffs and green valleys. There are currently four small settlements connected by a road. Kalsoy also has thirteen peaks, the highest of which, Nestindar, is 787 meters high. It remains known for the legend of the Selkie, a mythological creature comparable to the mermaid. The latter is often considered responsible for accidents that occur on the island. A ferry connects Kalsoy with the other parts of the archipelago.
