Opened on November 30, 1927, New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater has played host to some of the world’s greatest names and as such holds a prominent place in popular culture.

The theater has had several names throughout its history. It was in 1967 that it acquired its current identity, as a tribute to Ed Sullivan, the legendary host of the TV show that featured the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Doors in the 1960s. Epicenter of the city’s theatrical production, the Ed Sullivan Theater is now mainly used for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The latter having succeeded David Letterman, Howard Cosell and Merv Griffin. The building consists of two parts: an office tower of 13 floors and an auditorium located at the back.
