Built by Robert Stewart in the 14th century, Doune Castle has served over the centuries as a royal retreat, hunting lodge and prison. Popularized in pop culture thanks to Monty Pythonand the Holy Grail, it hosted the filming of the Game Of Thrones series. Doune Castle having, along with Castle Ward in Northern Ireland, been used to “build” Winterfell, the stronghold of the Stark clan.
