In the north-east of the department, Cellefrouin has 500 inhabitants. More than 50 hamlets are scattered over its surface.
It was crossed by the old Roman road between Angoulême and Argenton.
Cellefrouin is home to two exceptional monuments: the church of Notre-Dame dating from the 11th century, the oldest in the whole of Angoumois, but also a lantern for the dead located in the cemetery. Erected in the 12th century and classified as a historical monument in 1886, it is twelve metres high.
