A former fortified castle, the castle of Montmelas has undergone many transformations and restorations during its existence. During the 12th century, the owner was Jeanne de Châteauvillain. Several families will acquire the monument, but during the 19th century, it is deeply reworked in a neo-gothic style by the architect Louis Dupasquier. Many elements have been preserved, including the old cylindrical keep. Since 2000, this monument is classified as historical, including the whole castle and the French gardens.
