Inaugurated in 1982 by Queen Elizabeth II, the Barbican Center is a major center of cultural activity in the British capital. Having until May 2001 hosted the Royal Shakespeare Company, listed Grade II, the Barbican Center cost 161 million pounds, obtained mainly thanks to a donation from the City of London.
