Located in the ancient Roman city of Italica, in the province of Betica, this amphitheater is part of a vast archaeological complex that also includes a theater, thermal baths, aqueducts, several houses and a temple. Almost as large as the Colosseum and the amphitheater of Capua, the amphitheater of Italica is subject to several theories: while some scholars say it was the work of Emperor Trajan, others think it was was commanded by Hadrian. These two emperors being the only ones whose families lived in the region.
