A very popular tourist attraction in the Dominican Republic, Altos de Chavon is a reconstruction of a 16th century Mediterranean-style village.
Altos de Chavon is located in the town of La Romana. The site includes several buildings, a cultural center, an archaeological museum and an amphitheater. Designed by Italian architect Roberto Copa and industrialist Charles Bluhdorn, Altos de Chavon opened its doors in August 1982. Its 5,000-seat amphitheater has hosted numerous concerts such as those by the Pet Shop Boys, Frank Sinatra and Julio Churches.
