4 Rue Aufredi in La Rochelle housed the Auffredy hospital.
Alexandre Aufrédy, a rich shipowner from La Rochelle, decided to finance the Saint-Barthélémy hospital in 1203. Some time later, the hospital changed its name to Auffrédy.
It was then managed by the military authorities and remained in service until 1949. It received more than 10,000 wounded or sick during the First World War.
Today, part of the building houses the premises of the Ministry of Defence’s pensions sub-directorate.
