Address 36 Quai des Orfèvres 75001 Paris, France

If, since 2017, the address no longer houses the offices of the Parisian judicial police, 36 quai des orfèvres remains emblematic of the great French judicial cases.

The offices of the criminal investigation department were set up 36 quai des orfèvres in 1913, more than a century after its installation by Jules Ferry. The premises were often associated with major French criminal cases such as that of Jacques Mesrine or Guy Georges.

The building was constructed between 1875 and 1880 on the site of the former hotel of the first president of the Paris Court of Appeal. It was rehabilitated after its destruction on May 24, 1871, during the Commune, in particular for the courthouse. It was in one of its wings that the offices of the PJ were set up.
