Number 18 place du Maréchal-Leclerc houses the former municipal theater of the city of Poitiers.
Built on the former site of a theater of 1819, the former municipal theater of the city of Poitiers was built in 1954 on the plans of the architect Edouard Lardillier.
Built in the 1940s, its reinforced concrete structure could accommodate a 560-seat auditorium, offices and a dance hall. For 20 years, the theater screened films, particularly art house films.
Closed in 2013 for renovation, the place will no longer host plays. Nevertheless, there are still some architectural works to be protected, such as the hall, the staircase, but above all the eglomerate glass of Robert Pansart covering 90 m2 and representing the arts.
