Inaugurated in 1972, the Saint-Charles hospital is a building located right next to the maternity hospital. Its very modern architecture contrasts with the urban fabric of the old town of Rochefort. It is the tallest building in the city.
In 2003, the Ministry of Health decided to rebuild a new hospital in Rochefort, with work beginning in 2006. At the opening in March 2011 will sign the final death of the hospital Saint-Charles.
Since 2011 the building is abandoned by the municipality despite the many rehabilitation projects proposed.
