Address 10 Rte de Poitiers 86160 Gençay, France

The Cooperative Dairy of the Old Castle is located in the commune of Gençay in the Vienne department (86)

Before being a dairy, the site was a wheat mill called Moulin d’Anfrenet. In the heart of the small town, in 1932, a butter factory was set up at the Moulin Patarin and then joined the Anfrenet premises. Between 1918 and 1930, the number of workers increases from 400 to 1800. The site develops with the construction of offices and an unloading dock in the 1940s, but also a manufacturing workshop in 1960, refitted in 1972.

At the height of the dairy, up to 24 trucks collected milk from the 2400 neighboring farms. The butter, Le Vieux Château, was produced there until 1975. In 1982, it became part of the Capri-beurre food group, but it was only a production unit until 1998.
