About Fantrippers

It all started from this love of places in films, series, music, comic strips, novels. Like many of us, we loved to discover them both on trips to the other side of the world and at home. But it wasn’t easy to find their locations.

A simple idea, a crazy project

One day in December 2015, while walking in New York, during a long journey passing notably by the Chelsea Hotel that Leonard Cohen anchored in the popular culture and the mythical barracks of Ghostbusters, the idea came up right in front of the Katz Delicatessen, the scene of the legendary orgasm scene in When Harry meets Sally : what if we set up a website, in English and French, for fans worldwide?

It’s in front of Katz’s Delicatessen in When Harry met Sally that Nicolas Albert came up with the idea for Fantrippers.

In retrospect, this bet sounds completely crazy. It is the brainchild of two buddies (Nicolas Albert and Anthony Thibault) driven simply by their enthusiasm for pop culture and the opportunity for fans to discover in reality these places that have become famous thanks to the imagination.

Route 66 as a developer

It was during a long car journey across the United States on Route 66 that the idea was born, while being nourished by our experiences leading us on the trail of Breaking Bad que des Blues Brothers, Forrest Gump, Iron Man, Prison Break, l’Inspecteur Harry, Very Bad Trip, Preacher, Elvis Presley, John Steinbeck et bien d’autres…

Los Pollos Hermanos in Albuquerque, the Blues Brothers prison in Joliet, Forrest Gump in Utah and the Ghostbusters barracks in New York…

This mode of discovery was great, interested a lot of people and touched all generations. We were convinced that we had to help fans like us to make it simple and accessible through this website we were going to create.

Books to finance the project

Other enthusiasts have gradually joined us to move forward and thanks to them, the site has been enriched. But the most complicated thing remained: despite our great energy and determination, our savings would not allow us to finance such a project.

So we started to find solutions on our own scale, modestly but with a passion for driving. That’s how our first book was born in 2017: the New York Guide to the 1000 cult places of films, series, music, comics, novels, of which a new edition was produced two years later.

We have put all our heart, passion and determination into offering our readers new anecdotes and practical information to help them make their trip unforgettable and unlike any other. And thanks to excellent press coverage, the work of the booksellers and the invaluable support of the readers, the adventure was able to continue. It has even continued with guides on the same concept devoted to Paris and London.

Then, in order to satisfy another type of traveller, eager to go to the essential, we imagined the maps of the 100 cult places of films, series, music, comics, novels. Everything seemed to be on the right track, Fantrippers made Buzz Lightning’s famous motto “to infinity and beyond” its own. Modestly, I mean. We’re first and foremost fans who are happy to share our passion with as many people as possible.

The health crisis in ambush

But the health crisis of 2020 has brought the journey to a halt. It’s not easy to keep moving forward under these conditions. The services for the professionals we wanted to set up had to be postponed, our books were no longer selling and our future was becoming uncertain. We even had to consider solutions to survive. So we had another crazy idea: since the fans couldn’t get there, what if we brought the trip home and made them dream with pop culture?

Thus were born our beautiful books Fanspots Stories New York and Fanspots Stories London.

Each book takes the reader to the heart of the history of the greatest masterpieces of pop culture by looking at places that have become inseparable from the works for which they served as settings. With a wealth of anecdotes, each Fanspots Stories title tells more than just a story: it’s some of the most fascinating stories in pop culture.

A new site and new projects

Today, the site is entering its 3rd version and is more than ever the fruit of our discoveries, our passion and our desire to share it as much as possible so that everyone can, like us, discover this feeling. to be in the setting of his favorite movie, series, music, comic book or novel.

This new site also marks the launch of our services for tourism professionals (agencies, travel agencies, guides, territories) to encourage them to introduce this new form of cultural tourism to as many people as possible.

Stay tuned for more information, and in the meantime, welcome to the Fantrippers universe!
