Le verre à pied.
Raymond Dufayel (Serge Merlin) calls out to Amélie Poulain (Audrey Tautou) on the stairs leading to her home.
She discovers the life of this old “cristal-man”. At the end of their conversation, he gives her the address of Dominique Bretodeau, the owner of the box of souvenirs found in her house behind a baseboard.
Since she is shy and does not want to be found out, she devises a very nice ploy. She rings the receiver of a telephone booth, Mr. Bretodeau (Maurice Bénichou) picks up but there is no one at the end. He then discovers his box and his memories come back to the surface. He is overwhelmed with emotion.
Afterwards, the man goes to his favourite café, Le verre à pied, to tell his adventure. Amélie listens to him with a real joy not far from the zinc of the bar.
He then opens up about his life and in particular the heartbreak of not seeing his daughter anymore.
To film the sequence in this bistro, it took two whole days.
In the film, Mathieu Kassovitz is named Nino Quincampoix, but that’s no accident. This is the name of the village where the cyclist Jacques Anquetil is buried, a great adversary of Federico Bahamontes, as Dominique Bretodeau remembers when opening his memory box.
118 Rue Mouffetard
Pretty bistro, Le verre à pied is located at 118 rue Mouffetard in the Montmartre district of Paris.
With its retro feel, Le verre à pied is a bistro that welcomes regulars from the Montmartre district and tourists.
The floor tiles are old, the tables very old and the wood stove of yesteryear. The atmosphere is thus a little nostalgic.
The atmosphere is relaxed and the menu offers typical French cuisine. Mimosa eggs, sautéed veal, goose rillettes or hake backs make the customers happy. The place is closed on Sunday evening and Monday.
