Venom, origins from San Francisco
Ask Tom Hardy how he portrays Venom, and he will answer very simply that the character is a mix of "Woody Allen’s tortured neurosis and all the humor that can come from that [and] Conor McGregor—the überviolence but not all the talking". The British actor embodies the monster and its host, the reporter Eddie Brock, Peter Parker's well known foe, in newest Sony Pictures Venom, coming this Friday in theatre.
More than a super-villain, the creature is rather a antihero such as Deadpool, except the humour and the funny behavior. Called "Symbiote", this alien is so strong that he could frightened the death itself. It might be the reason why he is popular with fans.
Respect of the origins
The movie seems to look faithful to Marvel's comicbooks. Most of the scenes centered on Eddie Brock are shot in San Francisco, California, hometown of the reporter. City agency Film SF in charge of movie productions in San Francisco said the crew took two weeks to shoot the scene in The City by the Bay.
A couple of neighborhoods were locked down such as North Beach for the production. The crew would have shot on Kearny St, between Vallejo St and Broadway. Same situation on Columbus Ave, between Pacific Ave et Vallejo St. In Russian Hill, several scenes were filmed on Taylor St, between Greenwich St and Broadway, but also on Filbert St, between Jones St and Mason St. In Lower Nob Hill, Geary St was also privatized by the crew to shoot between Leavenworth St and Jones St.
Film SF gives the name of other places such as the Edinburgh Castle pub -950 Geary St- in Polk Gulch. Some fans also reported on the internet that Tom Hardy and the production team were standing in front of Grant & Green Market in Telegraph Hill. Chinatown, The Embarcadero, et The Financial District are also said to appear in the movie even if we don't if any scene was really shot there or no. Like many blockbusters, Venom was also produced indoor in Atlanta, Georgia.
Sony Pictures seems to bet a lot of money on Venom adaptation on the big screen given that Tom Hardy already confirmed he agreed to sign a three-movie deal to appear as the main character for Venom franchise. The movie will not be just another Spiderman spin-off, but a full trilogy, except if the first one is a complete fail.
Synopsis : Following a scandal, journalist Eddie Brock attempts to revive his career by investigating the Life Foundation, but comes into contact with an alien symbiote that bonds with Brock, giving him superpowers as long as they share the same body.
