Top 6 The Sopranos filming locations in New York
The Sopranos in New York, a must-see series
Mafia, familly and at the same time terrifying New York, that's what The Sopranos series offers to the global television landscape. This panorama is not shown anywhere else, except in the guide New York of 1000 cult movies, series, music, comics and novels locations.
Averna Social Club
Filmed many times, this bar whose real name is the Mulberry Street Bar constitutes the headquarters of the Brooklyn Mafia first led by Carmine Lupertazzi (Tony Lip). The respected and moderate boss dies from a heart attack. He’s then replaced by Johnny “Sack” Sacramoni (Vincent Curatola), much more impulsive and under whose authority the relations with the New Jersey neighbors degrade. As for Bada Bing, the HQ of Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), it really is a strip tease club called the Satin Dolls (NJ 17, Lodi, New Jersey). His house is a bit further down, at 14 Aspen Dr. North in Caldwell.
John's of 12th street
The décor of this popular old Italian restaurant corresponds perfectly to the atmosphere in the series. Tony comes to bully a member of the Lupertazzi clan who spoke badly to his daughter Meadow (Jamie-Lynn Sigler). He breaks a number of his teeth and triggers open warfare with the New York mafia.
Tony’s men like to get together for lunch in this Italian restaurant which figures amongst the oldest in the city. It opened in 1900, five years before the first pizzeria in the United States.
Saint Rita Church
This pretty neo-art deco church built in 1966 appears as of season 1, then again in season 6. It’s here that Carmela Soprano (Edie Falco) confides in Father Phil (Frank Vincent) on how hard it is to be the local Godfather’s wife.
Tony stays in this luxurious hotel during one of his trips to New York in episode 12, season 4 and the 11th in season 5. It has a view over Central Park and it is known for being in many films and series.
The famous Katz in When Harry Met Sally... appears in episode 15 of the last season. Family friend and informal advisor to Tony, Herman “Hesh” Rabkin is here when he’s on the phone with the New Jersey mafia boss.
