New York : the must-see places of Master Of None

Dev, actor for commercials, lives a rather mundane life in the least commonplace city in the world. At each episode, a discovery of a New York treasure.

BBQ (Smorgasburg)

The BBQ where Dev Shah (Aziz Ansari) and his cousin Navid eat pork sandwiches, in spite of the latter’s strict Muslim upbringing, is actually located at Smorgasburg.  This assembly of food trucks happens every Saturday, from April to October, in Williamsburg, next to the East River Park. It’s a great opportunity to try out flavors from all over the world with a fantastic view of the skyline.

Baby's All Right

Accompanied by Alice, whom he wants to charm, Dev arrives at the Baby’s All Right to attend a concert.  The date turns out to be a nightmare, but he does accidentally run into Rachel, (Noëll Wells).

Morgenstern's Ice Cream

At this ice cream shop, Dev  comes across the husband of the culinary critic Claire Danes, with whom he had started to flirt with before backing off when he found out she’s not single.  At the end of this scene, he sees things differently. Since its opening in 2014, Morgenstern has become the veritable pet favorite of New Yorkers. It has to be said that it’s not without reason; the homemade ice cream in original flavors is delicious!  They sell between 300 and 1000 every day, but it might happen that you have to wait an hour before being served.

Jane Ballroom

After the preview of the film Dev played in, a party is organized on the spot.  However, the party was not so fun for him as he learns during the showing that he had been edited out.  The setting at this location is fabulous, but it’s not very easy, in this nightclub, to blend in with a quirky vintage decor.

As we mention in our Guide New York of 1000 cult movie, series, music, comics, novel locations, one of the meetings between Dev and Jeff (Bobby Cannavale), his producer, takes place in this Italian restaurant with a superb setting and great-tasting food.

The Liberty Warehouse

Invited to attend a wedding, Dev and Rachel are each having doubts about their relationship as the bride and groom take their vows.  Situated on jetty 41 at Red Hook and the only place in New York where you can get a frontal view of the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Warehouse can hold up to 400 guests for private events.  It was built in 1850.

Washington Square Park

At the end of season 1, Dev takes stock of his life and decides to give it a fresh start in Italy.
